5 Mistakes Men Make On The First Date

January 31, 2008

The number one mistake made by men on the first date is trying to buy love. The first date is not a marriage proposal; it’s merely an opportunity to measure compatibility. If it doesn’t work out, you will have spent all that cash on a fancy restaurant and red roses for nothing. Unfortunately, the IRS has not declared bad dates to be tax deductible expenses.

Even if the first date leads to a second one, it might be going there for all the wrong reasons. You can buy a beer, a pizza, a house, a diamond necklace, a car, but you cannot under any circumstances buy love. What you can do is make a woman show her deep affection for all your money, and since it’s your money she’s fallen for, when it’s all gone, she’s going to be gone too. If you spend all your money on the first date by showering them with luxuries, what’s going to happen on the second date when three Krystal burgers and a small fry replace the seven course gourmet meal? Trust me. It’s not going to be pretty. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Save some for a rainy day.

Valentines Day is a very special holiday, yet it is one that many people dread more than anything. Valentines Day is about love and caring for one another and those who are alone often feel left out. There are some things that single people can do on Valentines Day to feel more loved and cherished and some things that they can do together to feel more accepted as the single person that they are. The Maid of Honor ? Remember, It?s All About the Bride!

January 30, 2008

The term and role "Maid of Honor" is sometimes confusing, and desperately needs some clear definition! When a Bride is choosing who will be her MOH, she needs to think about who will offer her the support, the helping hand, and the positive attitude she will need on her wedding day and the months leading up to it.

Traditionally, a MOH was a female, a sister or close girlfriend of the Bride. In today’s world, a male or ‘Man of Honor" is most welcome, and although his role reversal may be surprising to some guests, he becomes a welcome addition to the Bridal Party! Brides who choose a woman, who is already married as her right hand gal, can refer to her as their "Matron of Honor" although some women don’t like it as it sounds kind of dowdy!

As a MOH, the traditional main roles are:

Offer your assistance to the Bride as she begins her wedding plans. She may need a second opinion when looking at a million wedding dresses, reception locations and flower choices.

Organizing Your Family Photo Collection: Is Perfectionism Holding You Back?

Organizing Your Family Photo Collection: Is Perfectionism Holding You Back?
 by: Christine Sutton

Photographs are so important to us, and most of us consider our photographs to be our greatest treasure. It can be pretty intimidating to face the task of caring for your greatest physical treasure.

It is such a big deal, in fact, that we may have unspoken visions of how we see ourselves handling this task. Whether we’re aware of it or not, most of us would hope to pull off something of Martha Stewart’s caliber when it comes to how OUR photographs would be arranged and displayed. (We should note that we’re referring to Martha’s artistic creativity, not her creative expression in finance).

Perhaps we have lofty visions of beautifully designed scrapbook albums, or handsome stacks of leather photo boxes neatly lining the shelves of our mahogany bookcase. (Who cares if we don’t even own a mahogany bookcase - it goes better with our vision, so we throw it in there.)

Hire Divorce Lawyer or Use Online Divorce Forms

January 28, 2008

When do you need to hire a family law attorney and when is it okay to just use an online divorce form website to save a little money? This article will provide a few pointers to help you decide whether to do it yourself or retain a divorce lawyer.

What Does it Mean to Use an Online Divorce Form Website?

Essentially, using an online form website in your divorce case means that you will represent yourself and act as your own lawyer. All of the online divorce form sites have disclaimers making it clear that they are not your lawyer and are just preparing documents on your behalf. While it is your constitutional right to act as your own lawyer, there are some significant risks involved that should be evaluated before you take the online route.

Additionally, you have to evaluate the particular website you are dealing with. Most are national sites that offer forms that they claim will work in any state. However, every state has different laws. In other words, a California Divorce Decree will not be identical to a Texas Divorce Decree because the laws of the two states are not identical. So with an online divorce you are basically getting a generic form that may or may not work in your jurisdiction.

Great Tips For A Safe Online Dating Experience

January 27, 2008

Dating can be scary no matter how or where you meet. Maybe he hasn’t shaved in five years. Perhaps, she has a reputation as the Black Widow after never being called back for a second date. Any date is a toss up. Dating is sort of how Forrest Gump described life; it’s like a box of chocolates because you never know what you’re going to get.

Because of the anonymity of online dating, it can be trickier than conventional dating. Appearances and descriptions can be misleading, and unfortunately in other cases, just downright deceiving. By following a few tips, online daters can successfully experience safe dates and avoid being a guest on one of those “disastrous internet dating” talk shows.

Tip #1: Trust your instincts and use common sense. If this person rubs you the wrong way via email, imagine how he or she will make you feel in person. Don’t do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Tip #2: Enjoy your anonymity online. Using your dating service’s secure messaging system, you can communicate without giving out personal information until you feel comfortable. The last thing you need is your very own email stalker.

A Wedding Shower Checklist

January 26, 2008

Bridal showers are one of many pre-wedding parties and are great fun. They are known as parties with a purpose. The purpose of a shower is to assist the couple in equipping their new home or for the bride to assemble a trousseau. Not only that, but they are a good excuse for the bride to get together with her friends and family to play hilarious games and to enjoy the food and wine.

Did you know that a trend has started for ‘couples showers’? This is sometimes termed as the ‘Jack’ and ‘Jill’ shower where you shower both the bride and groom with gifts and good wishes. Either way, if you are having a traditional shower party for just the bride, or decide to have a couples shower, then the planning and the checklist will invariably be the same.

Here is an outline of a wedding shower checklist to get you on your way to organising a great shower party.

Who should host the shower?

Create Valentine’s Day Family Traditions
 by: Sheila Anderson

Often the fondest childhood memories stem from family traditions that were lovingly repeated throughout the years. Family traditions have family at the center of a celebration spending time together and creating lasting memories. If you don’t already have a family Valentine’s Day tradition, why not start one this year. It could be the beginning of many wonderful years of Valentine’s Day memories with your family.

A Valentine family tradition doesn’t have to be expensive. The main idea is to spend time with the family together. Here are some inexpensive ways you can start a Valentine’s Day family tradition in your family.

Make a Food Treat Together

Most people associate chocolates with Valentine’s Day, but how about making a different treat together that your family can share together. One fun treat you can make are Rice Krispies hearts. All you need is the basic Rice Krispies squares recipe, heart shaped cookie cutters and red sprinkles. Lightly grease the insides of the heart shaped cookie cutters and press some Rice Krispies squares mix into the cookie cutters. Then remove the cookies cutters and add the sprinkles. Repeat as needed with the rest of the mixture. It’s simple enough for young kids to help out.

Made In America

Made In America
 by: Scott Bianchi

In a time where very few of the products we buy in this country are made in this country there is a TV show on the air that makes everything own their own. That show is the Discover Channel’s highest rated show, “American Chopper”. There is a tremendous following for this show and I think it is easy to see why. This show is not just about motorcycles, it is the ultimate in reality TV.

Even people who are not into motorcycles enjoy this show and I think it is because they can relate to the show in one way or another. Either they are fascinated by the workmanship displayed by Paul Jr. and Vinny, on the theme bikes they build. Or they have been a part of a dysfunctional family at some point in their life. Or, maybe they even work for a boss that thinks he/she knows what he/she is talking about all the time, even when he/she really does not.

How to Plan a Cheap Wedding

January 24, 2008

There’s no doubt about it, weddings can be expensive. The average cost of a wedding today is $20,000 ? $25,000, and weddings are estimated to be a $25.3 billion industry. But don’t worry if your budget cannot stretch for the most expensive custom-made gown, elegant invitation cards, or the top photographer, it doesn’t mean that your wedding will be any less unique or special than anyone else’s.

You just need a bit of guidance and a few tips to help you achieve the dream of your big day. Here are a few suggestions with tips on how to save on some of the more expensive aspects of a wedding.

Wedding Gowns

Do you really need a hand-made wedding dress with beads and diamantes? This is where the big cost is and there are several options in cutting the cost. Why not opt for a second-hand wedding dress? It’s probably only been worn once anyway and you can get a once expensive dress for half the price. Consider buying an evening gown/cocktail dress from a department store or look into renting your wedding dress for the day.
