Sit Back And Remember

Sit Back And Remember
 by: Tyler Brooker

Why is it, that any holiday, time off, or event, someone is sick? Do they plan it that way? I was sitting today, pondering, reminissing, and it came to my attention that every function I have ever attended had at least one of my family members sitting with the sniffles.

I was 7 years old. It was christmas time, and I was sick with my appendix. That was a good one. Is it coincidence? Or is there some greater evil out there that enjoys watching suffering in times of joy. We should find him, and tell him we are NOT impressed.

Timing is everything. There is a point, in every persons life, where everything seems to go wrong, and all you can do is sit there and watch it happen. But maybe it’s a good thing. In fact, if nothing goes wrong, we won’t know what’s right. Perhaps what we need to do is change those tears of helplessness into tears of joy. That would be weird. “I love it when i get Scarlet Fever!” Woops.

WHAT HAS WORKED FOR US

For some reason or another I had a passing thought today. I was reflecting on our marriage and I wondered…

“What makes it work”?

We are not perfect, we don’t agree on all things, and we still work through issues even after being married for nearly thirty-six years.

Thirty-six years. And we still enjoy it — LOL!

I didn’t spend a lot of time answering my own question.

I did, however, quickly jot down a few ideas about what has “made it work” for us.

MAKE YOUR OWN APPLICATIONS

You make your own observations and applications.

Apply what I have written to your marriage, mental “Should I ever marry” list, insights on being a friend — or “whatever.”

Christmas Crafts for Kids

Christmas Crafts for Kids
 by: Catherine Spelling

With the holiday season soon upon us, it’s time to think about some fun crafts you can do with your children in preparation of Christmas. My kids love doing holiday crafts, and I’m sure yours will too! It has always been challenging to find age-appropriate crafts that all of the children will enjoy making. My children each have a few years between them, so we have amassed quite a collection of crafts and craft ideas. Here are a few suggestions you can use. Consider it an early Christmas gift from me to you!

Bead garlands are one of my all-time favorite crafts. They are fun to make, extremely colorful, and great for children of all ages. You will need some string or plastic cord, a whole lot of beads, some scissors, and some glue. Cut the string or cord to the desired length, and thread it through the first bead. Tie a knot around that bead, and add some glue to keep it secure. Now add the rest of your beads. When you reach the end, tie the string off on the last bead and add some more glue. Now that was fun, wasn’t it?

Asian Dating - Respect and Honour

July 28, 2009

Honour and respect are two of the most important elements in Asian culture, and they shouldn’t be overlooked when it comes to dating. For instance, traditionally, Asian women are taught at a young age to know their place around men, treat them with respect and accommodate them, while men are taught to protect and provide for the women. Although these traditions have become a faded practice in Western culture, respect still plays an important role in the Asian dating scene.

If you are Asian and are seeking a serious relationship with a man or woman from your ethnic culture, you will need to take into consideration that every move you make could be watched carefully by your partner’s family, who may very well act as the third party to your date. With this in mind, here are a few tips you will want to think about when you begin dating:

Make an Impression - Be on your best behaviour. Listen to your date, create casual conversation, and be accommodating and thoughtful.

5 Ways To Keep Warm In Winter

5 Ways To Keep Warm In Winter
 by: Janice Wee

The movie The Day After Tomorrow. Where everyone was facing an ice age ahead, with temperatures so cold your blood could freeze instantly.

The main characters in the story were hiding in a library. Wise move. You wouldn’t run out of things to burn in a library that is full of books. In their effort to stay warm, they kept their fireplace ablaze by burning library books, feeding the fire continually for that much needed warmth.

A homeless guy who had to survive winter in the streets crushed up paper and stuffed his clothes with them for insulation. One of the key ways to stay warm in winter is to insulate your clothing. That way, you keep the warmth in and the cold out. Crushing the paper trapped air. Air is a great insulator of heat. So that made a lot of sense.

Here are 5 tips to help you fight the cold.

#1 Generate heat.

To generate heat, most modern homes have a proper heating system. Just make sure you pay your heating bills. If you can’t pay the bills, get your bills paid on your behalf. For example, if you are a U.S. resident, you can get free heating at http://www.cheapestsale.com/free-heating.html

Marriage Advice: Ten Ways to Add Romance to Your Marriage

July 27, 2009

Every marriage needs a healthy dose of on-going romance to add spice, delight, and fun to the relationship. It’s not enough to just start out with a sizzling romance. You have to find a way to keep the romance alive as the months and years accumulate.

One of the marital challenges many couples face is how to live together without losing that special romantic spark. It’s all-too-easy to lose the role of lover along the way. When this happens, spouses often start relating to each other as they would to a friend or a sibling. Parents can begin to feel they are only "business partners" joined together to raise their children and keep the household running.

How can you keep romance alive when your daily work schedule is grueling, you’re always short on time and energy, and you’re not sure what to do? Here are ten tips to help you sprinkle romance into your marriage:

1. Pay attention when your spouse mentions things he or she likes or expresses interest in something that could make a good gift, such as a new CD, a book, or theater/concert/sports tickets. Be on the lookout for ideas for birthday, holiday, and anniversary gifts, plus "no reason" surprise gifts. It’s very flattering to know that someone really tried to find a gift that was just what you wanted.

Man Made Diamonds, The Affordable Alternative

July 24, 2009

Diamonds may be a woman’s best friend, but modern man made diamonds are so good as to be indistinguishable from real diamonds. And when you look at the huge savings on price, man made diamonds may be a woman’s best decision.

Increasingly, engaged couples are considering the cost of some wedding jewelry. In today’s high pressure high cost lifestyle couples are really wondering whether or not it is appropriate to spend big on, say, a diamond engagement ring.

The more spent on wedding jewelry the less available later for the important things in the marriage, like a house. Or the kids when they arrive. Is it responsible to spend so much to buy a diamond engagement ring when these more important things may need to be compromised later?

Especially when you consider that good quality man made diamonds cannot be distinguished from real diamonds, even by jewellers.

Faux diamonds are big business. The pearl jewelry industry was revolutionised by the advent of cultured pearls. Synthetic diamonds are doing the same thing to the wedding jewelry business.
